Founded in 2011, Tokyo-based Cav Empt (C.E.) was secretly introduced to the world of fashion following the devastating Tōhoku earthquake. Founders Toby Feltwell, SK8THING and Hishiyama Tutaka got the name from the phrase "caveat emptor" (translating to "buyers beware"), and describe the brand's launch as a “dissatisfaction" with the present. Now considered one of the most enigmatic fashion brands, their sci-fi milieu & retro-futuristic aesthetic is led by the theme that positivity arises by exploring the past to build a better future - something that is evident with each garment released.
