LIKELIHOOD prides itself on bringing you brands with a legacy, messages that have carried over countless decades. That being said, it’s almost offensive that it's taken us this long to bring you Salomon.
Birthed out of a ski workshop in 1947 Annecy, France, Salomon’s rise to notoriety began in the winter sport industry. Nearly 20 years after starting, the company made its large scale debut at the 1966 Olympic Games, eventually becoming the world’s #1 binding manufacturer some years later. The massive popularity Salomon developed through their sportswear products is only a chapter in their developing story, with streetwear and high fashion taking notice far later along their timeline.
Buzz surrounding Salomon’s hiking sneakers began in more places that one could count. The brand popped up everywhere from Palace’s 2018 look-book to the feet of Undercover founder Jun Takahashi. Fast forward to more recently, the brand’s recognition within elite circles has placed it atop the cult movement known as ‘Gorpcore,’ an acronym for “Good Ol’ Raisins and Peanuts.” In essence, this term describes outdoor, function driven clothing turned fashion statement, the very transition made by Salomon in recent years.
Much of this is thanks to the ‘Sportstyle’ division that the brand activated in 2016. It had been almost tradition at Salomon to stay monochromatic, but this step forward turned their two color options into hundreds. Following their move in this direction, the sneaker label has been enlisted for the collaborative work by the likes of Comme des Garcons, along with 111 Boris Bidjan Saberi and ERL in 2021 alone.
LIKELIHOOD’s first selection of Salomon footwear gets down to the fundamentals, in the form of the XT-6. Worn by athletes and sneakerheads alike, the tactical silhouette is prepared for all conditions, with EVA cushioning designed to lessen impact on trail surfaces and a lugged sole geared toward downhill travel.
